A donor of oocytes is used when patient’s ovaries do not produce their own oocytes because of different reasons or when repeated attempts of artificial fertilization ended in failure. Egg donation is also used in medicine if there is a risk to transmit hereditary deceases to a child.
Who can be a donor?
An egg donor can be a woman aged 18 to 36, who is physically and mentally healthy(in accordance with the legislation of Ukraine). During the treatment, donor eggs under the age of 30 years are used in order to obtain the best quality oocytes and high effectiveness of infertility treatment programs. The Egg donation program is absolutely anonymous. Spouses, who use donor oocytes, cannot see donor’s photos and are informed only about such characteristics as height, weight, colour of hair and eyes, blood type, and rhesus-factor, nationality, whether a donor has a family. We do not use donors who have a history of cancer, heart, kidney diseases, hereditary diseases and sexually transmitted diseases, mental illnesses, alcoholism, drug usage.
It is desirable that a recipient (a patient, who uses donor oocytes) is a woman aged to 50. An egg donor receives no information about recipient.
The efficiency of embryo transfer in patients with donor eggs slightly exceeds the efficiency in patients with conventional IVF program, reaching 50-60% per cycle.
When is Donation used?
Indications for conducting in-vitro fertilization using donor oocytes/sperm are the following:
- Absence of oocytes because of such reasons as natural menopause, premature ovary failure syndrome, uterine appendages ablation;
- If a patient has a gene with mutation and sex-linked hereditary diseases;
- In-vitro fertilization attempts that ended in failure, low reaction of ovaries for ovulation induction, numerous receiving of low quality embryos.
